Passion Republic
2020
Passion Republic is a well-known local game development company famous for developing several big titled games. I was excited for this project as I consider myself an avid gamer. As a designer in charge, the brief calls for an extension from their existing office but located at a different shop lot unit. Despite the stereotypical idea of game devs wanting to have a space with exciting dynamic designs, however this client specifically wants a calm and minimal design which they can break away from their graphical world. Another requirement we had to adhere to was to connect their existing unit next door by creating a passageway in between the 2 units. The challenges faced during this project was to cover an existing void on the 1st floor above their ground floor but to not have any load bearing structure and can still support the load from the floor above. The solution to this was to build a metal floor slab which was cost effective and easier to construct considering the short period of time. The final outcome features minimal, zen concept mixed with industrial elements from the metal beams, perforated metal and concrete floors. As this project involved very minimal carpentry works, we positioned the lights in a way to reflect the graphic elements and to add some design to the entire space. We had also provided custom office furniture to the client which was tailored to fit their needs. Overall it was an entirely different experience knowing how game devs work and the kind of space they need.
